$200 CHECK-UP & CLEAN EXPLAINED
At The White Bite, we offer $200 check-up and cleans (incl. check-up, scale, polish, fluoride and x-ray) for patients without private health cover. This offer is valid for all new and existing patients. Always.
The Australian Dental Association recommends 6-monthly preventative dental appointments to stay on top of your oral health. These regular visits help to detect any major concerns early before they can become serious issues.
What happens during a check-up & clean?
At first, your dentist will check when we have taken your last x-rays. X-rays are only required every two to three years. If you are a new patient, we may also take an OPG. An OPG is a larger x-ray that shows all of your teeth and jaws in detail. The small x-rays will show your dentist if there are any cavities in between your teeth or underneath your old fillings.
Next, our team will take a series of photos of your teeth and mouth. The dentist will then exam your teeth and gums and have a closer look at existing fillings, periodontal issues and more.
Then, we use an ultra-sonic cleaner and polish to remove plaque and stains that you can’t remove with a toothbrush yourself. The scaling helps to remove the tartar that may have built up. Your dentist will also apply some topical fluoride to strengthen your teeth.
In the end, our team will show you the photos and x-rays. In addition, they will explain if you need any further treatment and options to achieve a healthier smile. If you need further treatment, you will also receive an itemised treatment plan.
Why do I need a dental check-up?
We use our teeth every day and often it is hard to completely avoid the build up of plaque and stains on your teeth. It is important to maintain a good oral hygiene routine that includes brushing at least twice a day for a minimum of 2 minutes and flossing daily. But even in doing that, you may still miss areas or neglect a region.
Visiting the dentist regularly helps to clean your teeth thoroughly and remove any tartar and plaque. Additionally, your dentist will be able to identify potential problems at an early stage. This will help you to maintain a healthy smile in the long run.
How long does a check-up and clean take?
For patients who visit the dentist every 6 months, a preventative check-up and clean usually takes between 30 and 45 minutes. Depending on the condition of your teeth and your oral hygiene routine, treatment can take up to an hour. New patients should plan for a 60 minute appointment to allow time for photos, x-rays and an OPG.
If you need additional treatment, your dentist may also explain this at the end of your appointment. You will then receive a treatment plan which you can take home.
Why does the dentist require your medical history?
If you are a new patient or we haven’t updated your medical history in a year, we will ask you to fill in a medical history form. Your medical history will help our team to identify potential risks and ensure that we have all important information when treating you.
Medications and allergies, for example, can influence your oral health and affect the environment within your mouth. Some prescription medication can also lead to an increase of dental problems. Therefore, it is very important to keep your dentist updated about any allergies, medications and concerns you may have.
