teeth straight for veneers

Do teeth have to be straight for veneers?

Your teeth may not have to be straight to get veneers, however if your teeth are severely misaligned, you may be advised to straighten them first. In short, the more crooked your teeth are the more preparation you may require before veneers can be placed.

Cosmetic treatments such as Porcelain Veneers are permanent so you should consult with your dentist first to understand your suitability. Due to the nature of Porcelain material, it is one of the most popular options here at The White Bite as it is strong, durable, and more resistant to chips and cracks. However, they cannot be whitened and should be looked after with proper care each day to enhance its aesthetic look and to increase the longevity of your veneers.

We do however offer composite veneers which closely resemble the natural colour of your teeth, are less expensive as Porcelain Veneers but may not be as durable.

Furthermore, your dentist will also advise you of the risks the treatment may carry and if you do require treatment prior to ensure your oral health is up to scratch before your veneers are placed.

What may happen if I get Veneers on crooked teeth?

Placing veneers over crooked teeth may essentially be covering up your issue rather than providing a solution. Yes, Veneers may give you your desired look on the outside but it’s underneath them and how your teeth sit which may cause some issues in the future. In some cases, your veneers may even appear slightly out of place, for some it may not even be a big deal, however you may want to address this if you have any concerns.

Again, this depends on your case, and you should consult with your dentist to find out if you are a suitable candidate for a veneer treatment.

What issues can occur from crooked teeth?

If your teeth are crooked, you may be exposed to potential issues such as:

  • Cavities
  • Chips or cracks
  • Gum disease
  • Excessive wear on teeth

In some cases, crooked teeth may also lead to lack of confidence or self-esteem.
