Dental Health Week 2021 has begun! Dental Health Week is an annual campaign run by the Australian Dental Association to bring awareness to the importance of oral health. This year, the campaign will run from Monday August 2 until Sunday August 8.
At The White Bite, we understand the importance of oral health and are committed to helping our patients and the community around us with this every day. Another important aspect of life we are committed to is supporting those who need it the most within our local community.
Because of this, we are taking this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for local Gold Coast charity, Super Max & Bryce, who help support young children undergoing cancer treatment.
During the whole month of August, The White Bite will be donating $1 for every patient we see to Super Max & Bryce. In a joint effort with Coastal Dental Care, we hope to raise $10,000 and help to provide comfort and connectedness to young children in treatment for cancer through gifts of specially designed Super Max the Turtle night lights.
About local Gold Coast Charity Super Max & Bryce
In 2011, a four-year-old boy from the Gold Coast named Bryce was struck with the news that his mother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. One month prior to her diagnosis, one of their family friends, another four-year-old named Max, was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Watching his mother and Max go through their cancer treatments, Bryce couldn’t imagine what it’d be like to be in their position and especially how scary it would be for children like Max. Because of this, Bryce wanted to make a difference and help support young children in treatment for cancer.
In 2016, Bryce embarked on a journey to raise money to buy six special turtle shaped night lights to give to children with cancer around the Gold Coast. The turtles are special because they are designed by children’s oncologists so they can be fully sanitized. This allows children in treatment to take them anywhere in the hospital including strict environments like ICU and isolation wards. The turtle night lights were named after Bryce’s friend, Max, hence their name, Super Max the Turtle. Given his goal to gift these special night lights, Bryce named his charity organization, Super Max & Bryce.
By the end of 2017, one year after setting his goal to purchase and gift six night lights, Bryce had travelled around Australia visiting all eight of the children’s oncology and haematology hospitals, and had gifted over 1,000 night lights to children in treatment.
What we are doing to raise money in August?
Bryce is now 14 years old and is committed to ensure that every single child who is diagnosed with cancer in Australia and New Zealand is given a Super Max the Turtle Night Light. As Bryce says, he wants every superhero child in treatment to feel the “love through the stars” as they look up at the stars projected from their turtles onto the ceiling of whatever room they are in. He wants them to know that wherever they are, they are not alone. They are connected to over 5,000 other children in treatment through the little turtle lights that brighten even the darkest of rooms.
To help Bryce reach his goal, The White Bite is proud to support Bryce in his pursuit to share love, hope, happiness and comfort with every child diagnosed with cancer in Australia and New Zealand. Every. Single. Child.
During August 2021, we are doing several things to help raise money for Super Max & Bryce. These activities include:
Donating $1 for every patient we see
For every patient we see, we will be donating $1 to Super Max and Bryce. Whether you are a new or existing patient, we will be donating $1 when you visit us in August. We look forward to seeing all your wonderful faces and cannot wait to see how much we can raise together.
Within our reception area we will have a donation box for you to place any spare change you wish to donate. What if you do not have money on you? There will be a QR code printed on the box which you can scan and go directly to Super Max & Bryce’s online donation page.
If you do not have an appointment with us and would like to donate, you can head to Super Max & Bryce’s donation page to contribute. All the money is going to a great cause. If you are able to donate, we greatly appreciate your support.
Where will the funds go?
In a combined effort with Coastal Dental Care, we are aiming to raise $10,000. This will help purchase approximately 400 Super Max the Turtles for children in treatment next year. These Turtles are provided to young children for free to help comfort them wherever they go.
We encourage you to visit Bryce’s website, to see the smiles on these brave little superheroes faces. Their smiles really do say it all in terms of how special these little night lights are.
In addition, $1 from each turtle will also goes towards supporting cancer research. Super Max & Bryce also have star-covered and love-filled scarves and socks available for purchase on their website too. These are the gifts they give to parents and carers of the little superheroes, so they also feel loved, supported and connected with each other.
When you purchase a turtle, scarf or socks on their website, you’re also gifting one to children in treatment and/or their parents/carers at the same time. The Super Max & Bryce team believe that there is a unique magic in gifts given from strangers -they carry a very special kind of love.
Join us this August to help support Super Max & Bryce
If you have not been in for your regular check up, now is the time to do so. We are calling on all the Gold Coast to help us support this amazing local charity.
The team at The White Bite greatly appreciate any support or donation you can provide, whether it is big or small.
So, join us this August and help us create Superhero Smiles for young children who are suffering from cancer. Working together, we can make a difference.
